Komade bakalara popržiti na zagrijanom ulju i izvaditi. Na istom ulju popržiti luk narezan na kolutiće. Kad luk zažuti, posložiti red bakalara i red krumpira narezanih na ploške. Redanjem posložiti sve sastojke. Posipati isjeckanim češnjakom i peršinom, posoliti, popapriti i ubaciti lovor. Preliti sve sastojke vodom i kuhati na laganoj vatri jedan sat. Povremeno protresti posudu, ali bez miješanja. U nekim krajevima bakalaru se dodaje žlica meda da mu oduzme jačinu i učini ga mekanijim. Jelo će imati bolji okus ako se pripremi u zemljanoj posudi.
